Scottsdale runs about twenty miles from the galleries and low adobe storefronts of Old Town up through McCormick Ranch and Gainey Ranch, past Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Quarter, and out to Grayhawk, DC Ranch, Troon North and the foothills below Pinnacle Peak. That is the particular Scottsdale situation. People here have generally not neglected their teeth. A third quotes something that sounds either alarmingly high or suspiciously low. You are being asked to make a permanent decision using vocabulary nobody taught you.

What we try to add is not another opinion so much as better information. A 3D CT scan shows the bone you actually have — under the bridge, around the failing post, in the areas nobody has looked at in a decade. Very often the picture is more workable than patients fear. Sometimes it confirms that continuing to repair is throwing good money after bad. Either way you are deciding from your own anatomy rather than from a brochure.

There is also a scheduling reality specific to this city. A great many Scottsdale residents are here from October to April and somewhere else for the summer. That makes treatment timelines a real planning problem rather than a detail — if you fly out in late April, you want to know before you start whether the work finishes first. Fixed teeth on the day of surgery and final zirconia in as little as 21 days exist partly for that reason. For most Scottsdale patients, the short answer is no. Original Medicare (Parts A and B) states it plainly: Medicare “doesn’t cover dental services like routine cleanings, fillings, tooth extractions (removals), or items like dentures and implants.” The exceptions are narrow and hospital-based — a dental exam before a heart valve replacement or an organ transplant, for instance, or an extraction to clear an infection before cancer treatment.

Some Medicare Advantage plans add a dental benefit. Those benefits are set by the plan rather than by Medicare, and the annual maximum is usually well below the cost of implant treatment. Private dental insurance behaves much the same way: an annual maximum, a list of exclusions, and sometimes an alternative-benefit clause that pays toward a denture instead of an implant.
